19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.
Success also indicates he has secured 21 championships at 21 various events.
"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on court had caused observers to question if his skill to play at the top level was over.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to create a decider.
Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
